In one sitting.įracture follows the story of Delaney Maxwell, a seventeen year old and straight A student living in the north of Maine with a good group of friends and a healthy family life. Would it be as strong? Would I be drawn to the characters? Would the plot be lacking or would it leave an impression? Clearly the only way I was going to get answers was by reading it. Okay, so I may have read the blurb first… and a couple of sentences to get an idea of tone… and I may have stayed at the library looking at other books… but that doesn’t sound nearly as dramatic, does it? Of the fourteen weddings, this book starts off with the most controversial one: Prince Haakon of Norway to Mette-Marit Tjessem Hoiby. Those expecting a book about Diana or other British royal brides are in for a surprise. But the cover is also somewhat misleading. Aside from Princess Grace of Monaco, the other brides may be completely foreign to those outside of their respective countries. But such a nod and cover photo is necessary, if only because Diana is the most globally recognizable. ![]() ![]() Looking at the cover with the famous photo of Diana on her wedding day, you could be forgiven for thinking of this as just another book focusing on British royal weddings. Timothy's life takes a sharp turn when he discovers the bodies of two dead girls, each seared with the same cruel brand on the upper arm. He boards at a brothel in exchange for teaching the mistress how to read and spends his nights dredging the Thames for dead bodies and the treasures in their pockets. He's also struggling to bury his past as a cripple and shed his financial ties to his benevolent "Uncle" Ebenezer by losing himself in the thick of London's underbelly. Timothy Cratchit, not the pious child the world thought he was, has just buried his father. ![]() Lincoln comes a different kind of Christmas story featuring a grown up Tiny Tim, this breathless flight through the teeming markets, shadowy passageways, and rolling brown fog of 1860s London would do Dickens proud for its surprising twists and turns, and its extraordinary heart. ![]() |
